British Touring Car Championship TBL 2024

Image
Photo from the BTCC Gallery, credit to the owner (Quick note: I wrote this on New Years Eve, I have quickly updated it in a final read over but I still may have missed some news, my apologies if so) Recently, I've seen a lot of talk in the BTCC world about TBL's. I'm big enough to admit, I didn't understand what was going on or why the latest TBL confirmation list was causing such a stir. I'm also super curious/nosy so obviously I wanted to know what was cracking. Maybe other people are in the same boat as me (being following the sport for a long time but also clueless about the behind the scenes of the sport), or new to the BTCC world so I want to break it down to the simplest terms. Let's get into it! What is a TBL? So, to start with, a lot of acronyms and abbreviations.  The BTCC is organised by TOCA, which formally traded as BARC (TOCA) Ltd. BARC is the British Automobile Racing Club, one of the biggest Motorsport organisations in the UK. TBL stands for TO...

McLaren Car Launch 2024 (Surprise!)

Image
(Photo from McLaren F1 Twitter/X) Well, mark me down as confused!  The last thing I expected to happen today was an F1 2024 car release! I nearly fell of the exercise bike at the gym when it popped into my emails (I was trying to distract myself from the horrors of exercising). If you follow me on Twitter  you will know that I thought it was a leak (I mean it could have been but McLaren just rolled with it) but alongside the email, all of McLaren's socials were posting about it with a mixture of photos and promotional videos so it didn't seem super likely to be a leak. It's definitely taken everyone by surprise, like who launches a car in January?! Well they certainly got people talking and started the hype for the 2024 season early. Maybe too premature though...  It seems that there has been a mixed reception to the 2024 McLaren entry, the most common comment I have seen however is that it is the same as last years. Honestly, I'm inclined to disagree with these co...

Formula E Season Opener - Mexico

Image
( Photo from the FIA Formula E Twitter/X ) Starting Grid Pascal Wehrlein Sebastien Buemi Maximillian Gunther Race Result Pascal Wehrlein Sebastien Buemi Nick Cassidy So let me start by saying, I have beef with whoever does the broadcasting deals for Formula E. Last year I could watch full races for no additional cost on Channel 4. Now, I have to pay £30 a month to access TNT via Discovery+?! Not gonna happen!  With that being said, please enjoy my thoughts from watching the 5 minute highlights on Youtube... The drama began before the race did with Sergio Sette Camara's car grinding to a halt and having to be wheeled away. This would not be the only casualty of the race with non-finishes from Di Grassi, Da Costa and Frijns all crashing out in the first 10 laps. It's not the best way to start a season, hopefully they have more luck in Diriyah in two weeks time. Someone else I hope has more luck next time is Nyck De Vries. I swear to god I curse this poor guy whenever I open my mo...

Formula E 2024 Preview

Image
(Photo credit: Olgun Kordal) Let me just start by saying, I started watching Formula E last year because it was randomly on Channel 4 while I was doing sweet FA one Saturday morning. I was immediately hooked and started tuning into every race I could. This year I thought I'd have a crack at writing about it and learn more about this championship. With the tenth season of Formula E kicking off in Mexico this week, I thought I'd give myself, and anyone reading this, a refresher on how we ended last season and what is to come this year. The reigning champion going into this new season and the man to beat is British driver, Jake Dennis. Despite having a few pointless races at the start of the season, Dennis pulled it back and grasped the title with a 30 point gap over Nick Cassidy of Envision Racing (last season anyway). Despite this lead, Envision still managed to grasp the the constructors championship with 304 points. Will Dennis and American Motorsport giants, Team Andretti ...

BTCC Pre 2024 Season Thoughts

Image
(Photo taken from the BTCC Gallery, credit to owner) The start of the 2024 BTCC season is still a few months away but we're in that weird space of time that New Year brings where people reflect on the past year and anticipate what the next year might have to offer. With that being said, I thought I'd have a think about what the 2024 BTCC might have to offer. With 3 new teams set to join the grid and the loss of Team Hard, the team with the most cars on the grid, there's going to be a fair amount of change in the championship this year. But will anyone be able to take the challenge to NAPA Racing and reigning champion Ash Sutton? We shall see. Okay so currently this is a hard post to write at the moment due to not many confirmations about the upcoming season but what we do know is the following: No Team Hard (more on this in a later post) 3 new teams (Aiden Moffat Racing, CBM Racing and Restart Racing). This means that Aiden has most definitely left One Motorsport, leaving...

F1 Pre 2024 Season Thoughts

Image
(Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via GettyImages) Happy New Year guys! This means that there is only 59 days to go until the first media day of the F1 season! Which means only 53 days until Pre Season testing. Which means there is only 35 days until the first Car Launch! Well, so far anyway, we're still waiting for the majority of dates to be confirmed. So far we have Sauber and Williams both launching on the 5th February and Ferrari launching on Galentine's day (February 13th for those that don't know). Ferrari out there doing it for the girls, thank you! If you've been reading my ramblings for a while, you'll remember that I made a set of absolutely trash predictions for the 2023 season, including Nyck De Vries being rookie of the year... Yikes! Anyway, let's speculate again! Driver & Constructor Championship Winner Let's face it, it's probably gonna be Max and the squad over at Red Bull. But last year we had surprises like Aston Martin having a strong s...
