My Motorsport Bucket List
Another no race weekend, another post to fill the void! I decided to create my Motorsport Bucket List. So in no particular order, here are my motorsport based goals:
Attend all the British Touring Car Races in a season
I always try to attend one BTCC meet every year, in fact this time 6 years ago I was heading down to a meet. Usually, I head to Donington. This is where my obsession with motorsport began and I've never looked back!
So, I think the most BTCC meets I have been to in one year is 3. But one year, I am going to be so organised and financially stable that I can attend all the meets hosted. I'm gutted that I can't go to the season opener at Donington this year but lucky for me, they're doing two Donington meets this season so maybe I'll be able to get to the second. I'll definitely heading to at least one though! Maybe Croft...
Get a VIP/Media pass for a BTCC weekend
Okay, so technically, I kinda already did this back in 2015. My Dad happened to know the hospitality manager for one of the teams and we spent the Saturday of the Knockhill round in their hospitality tent, drinking free beer and chatting to the team and driver, Adam Morgan. Then on a hungover Sunday, we were given grid passes for the third race and ended up on the telly! The picture above is one my Dad took while we were on the grid.
But I'd like to achieve this on my own through my blog one day (minus the free beer, I need to not get banned/have my privileges revoked...). Maybe I'll just keep applying for media passes until I get one (if I get one).
Attend an IndyCar race
So I've really gotten into IndyCar in this F1/BTCC winter break. I've followed a couple of their drivers on social media for a while now but Sky decided to show some highlights of races at the start of 2023 and I was hooked! Not only was my love, Pato O'Ward, on my screen racing and getting interviewed but the racing was captivating! It's like F1 meets Nascar! I say that, I've actually never really watched Nascar (only in Logan Lucky, one of the greatest films ever) but BTCC used to have a meet at Rockingham which was similar to a Nascar track in sections and I loved it! That and the cars are beautiful...
Obviously the most well known IndyCar meet is the Indy500 so maybe that's the best place to start with this bucket list quest...
Get an F1 AAA/Media pass
Obviously, this is like, every motorsport blogger & content creator's dream, if not every motorsport fan! To be able to experience the hustle and bustle of the paddock in real life. This bucket list event of mine doesn't take much explaining but you'll all know I've made it when I get my hands on one of these bad boys!
Attend multiple F1 races a year
This is another dream that will be shared with motorsport fans all across the world; attending two or more races in a year. I mean, even being able to afford that would be dreamy!
I'm luckily going to one race this year but, my God, is it eating most of my money. And that's only for the Hungarian Grand Prix! I think so far I've spent the same amount of money on weekend tickets, flights and a hotel for Budapest than it costs for a weekend ticket alone for Silverstone...
Meet Someone from the F1 Community
Yet another widely shared ambition of mine; meeting someone from the F1 community. Someone like Carlos Sainz Jr, Daniel Ricciardo or Toto Wolff, they're probably my top tier people to meet. And Pato O'Ward obviously! But yeah, just meeting anyone from the F1 community would be an achievement.
I'm not going to say the same about any BTCC drivers or team members as it's so free and easy at those events. Just walking out of a café at a track you can bump into Jade Edwards or Aiden Moffat. Trust me, I've done it numerous times over the last 20 years but it's still thrilling!
Attend Goodwood Festival of Speed
I love love love watching this event on TV. If you don't know it, it's like one of the biggest British motorsport events held annually, usually a couple weeks near the British Grand Prix. And what's not to love, drifting competitions, the Hill Climb featuring cars from past, present and future and people who are there for one thing; the love of cars.
I was going to go this year but I have ended up committing to the Hungarian Grand Prix about a week after this event and as I've already mentioned: it all costs a fair amount of money! Maybe next year...
Attend the Autosport Awards
Now I'm not going to lie; I'm a sucker for for glitz and glamour. I live for movie award season. So the annual Autosport awards is like my dream event to attend. It's like the Oscars of the motorsport world. People associated with all championships come together for an evening to celebrate the years achievements and have a well earned night of fun. Previous award winners at the awards include: two time F1 champion Max Verstappen, three time BTCC champion Ash Sutton and ex F1 driver Daniil Kvyat.
Again, you'll know I've made it when I get to attend one of these...
So that's it for my current motorsport bucket list! Let's see how many of these I can make happen!
