Almost Mid Season Review
This week we had the glorious news that Daniel Ricciardo, The Honey Badger and literal sunshine, was back on the grid! Sadly, however, this came at the expense of Rookie, Nyck De Vries losing his F1 seat after only 10 races.
Now let me take you back nearly 6 months when I made my predictions for the season and I included a 'Best Rookie' category. This was the only thing I was sure about! And guess who I chose... Little Nyck De Vries...
Firstly, I'd like to apologise to Nyck for clearly jinxing his career, my bad, it was not my intention. Clearly, he didn't suit the car and would have been better signed by Williams. And I'm still confused as to why they didn't after his performance when he stepped in for Albon last year. They were clearly going to have an opening for a seat and Nyck proved himself in that one drive...
Anyway, that's not why I'm here.
With the news of the week and mid season rapidly approaching, I thought it would be a good time to look back at my predictions that I made in February and see what else I was wrong about!
Championship Winner
Head: Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc
Heart: Carlos Sainz Jr (please Ferrari! Just let them race!)
Well my head was right with the Max Verstappen prediction! It's not been a great year for the boys at Ferrari with Carlos being 5th in the championship and Charles being all the way back in 7th. I hope their luck starts turning and soon!
Constructors Champions
Head: Red Bull Racing
Heart: Ferrari (I have so much faith that Fred will do the team good)
Again, my head was absolutely right! I clearly gotta start listening to my brain more, my heart is steering me in the wrong direction...
Mercedes Return to Glory
Head: Unsure
Heart: No (I want a spicy season)
Oh this is a weird one, but I think they are doing better this season that the last! They currently sit 2nd in the constructors championship with Hamilton 4th in the drivers standing and Russell 8th, very split like the Ferrari boys.
Hamilton's Future
Head: This man will keep fighting until he gets his 8th championship
Heart: Retires or takes a season out which will give Mick Schumacher a seat at Mercedes
Again, I'm not sure I've got a clear answer for this one. Looking at his interviews this year, he's got that spark back in his eyes like his passion for the fight has been reignited and I love to see that. Although I would also love to see Mick back on the grid too...
Wildcard
Daniel Ricciardo will take Checo's seat at the end of the season.
It's getting closer, I can feel it! Especially with Checo's poor performances the last few qualifying sessions. He's already taken one seat after all...
Will I Attend a Race?
Head: Yes, I've already got my weekend pass for the Hungarian GP.
Heart: Yes (obviously) but I will attend multiple races and have an incredible year.
Well I'm heading off to Budapest in a couple of days! I'm very excited but really need to get packing... Instead I'm sat in bed watching Disney movies recovering from a stomach bug. Lovely stuff.
It's not looking hopeful for multiple F1 races this year because my bank account is suffering with just this one. Let's try again for next year!
Well, I better get packing, Daniel Ricciardo is waiting for me in Hungary!
